Work Time Practice Question - CAT 2012 Prep

The question for the day is from the topic Work and Time. The problems from the topic are similar to those of Pipes and Cisterns. So, if you understand the nature of one of these two types of questions, then you will be able to attempt the other quite comfortably.

A and B working together can finish a job in T days. If A works alone and completes the job, he will take T + 5 days. If B works alone and completes the same job, he will take T + 45 days. What is T?
  1. 25 days
  2. 60 days
  3. 15 days
  4. 24 days
  5. None of these

Correct Choice - (3). Correct Answer is 15 days


Explanatory Answer

When A and B work together, they will take under root 225 = 15 days.

Where 5 and 45 are the extra time that A and B take to complete the job if they work alone compared to the time that they will take if they worked together.
